No special preparation is needed for your MRI at Advantage. You may eat and drink normally, go about your normal activities, and take any medications prescribed by your doctor. You may however, want to avoid excessive sugar or caffeine prior to your MRI, which may hamper your ability to relax and lie still.

We would ask that you arrive a few minutes early so our staff can obtain all the information we need before you enter the scanning area. You should let us know if you have any of the following items or conditions:

Aneurysm Clips
Artificial Heart Valves
Dentures
Cochlear Implants
Foreign Metal Objects in Your Eye
Hearing Aid
Metal Implants
Pacemaker
Permanent Eyeliner or Tattoos
Pregnacy
Prosthetic Devices
Shrapnel or Bullet Wounds
Surgical Staples

After our staff has taken your medical history, you will proceed to a changing room. You may be asked to wear a hospital gown to avoid magnetic interference with metal zippers and belt buckles. You may also be asked to remove dentures and/or makeup. We provide a lock box for items of value such as coins, keys, credit cards and wallets, jewelry, watches, glasses, and any other metal objects you may have with you.

Once you are in the scanning area and are situated on the table, all you have to do is relax, breathe normally and lie still. There is nothing about the procedure to make you uncomfortable. You may hear a faint hum when the magnetic field changes.

A stereo system is present for your enjoyment, and a friend is welcome to sit with you during the test as well. After your MRI, Your referring physician will receive the results of your test. Your doctor will then discuss the results with you and answer any questions you may have.
